Kathak, an elegant classical dance form from North India, is centered on the art of storytelling through captivating footwork and fluid movements. Having learned Kathak since 2013, this art has instilled in me discipline, grace, and humility.
My passion extends far beyond annual performances; I give back by choreographing intricate pieces and teaching dance to underprivileged students through my school’s outreach program, SEVA. This allows me to share the beauty of Kathak while making a positive impact on my community.
An immensely gifted Kathak dancer, Devika is one of my finest students. She is deeply dedicated to her craft, methodical in her practice and intuitive in her performance. What I appreciate about Devika is her complete respect for dance, her humility alongside her tenacity. There is a uniqueness to the way she embodies Kathak, smiling through her performances, making the dance her own.
On a personal level, Devika’s amiable demeanor makes her a delightful person to be around.
Her strength of spirit is rooted in her perfectionist tendencies alongside a quiet perseverance, and watching her master her craft so beautifully has been one of the highlights of my teaching experience.
